“The World’s Wildlife Capital”-Nairobi National Park Day Trip
A short drive out of Nairobi’s central business district is the Nairobi National Park. Wide open grass plains and backdrop of the city scrapers, scattered acacia bush play host to a wide variety of wildlife including the endangered black rhino, lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, buffaloes, giraffes and diverse birdlife with over 400 species recorded. Visitors can enjoy the park’s picnic sites, three campsites and the walking trails for hikers.
Welcome to Kenya’s most accessible yet incongruous safari experience. Set on the city’s southern outskirts, Nairobi National Park (at 117 sq km, one of Africa’s smallest) has abundant wildlife that can, in places, be viewed against a backdrop of city skyscrapers and planes coming in to land – it’s one of the only national parks on earth bordering a capital city. Remarkably, the animals seem utterly unperturbed by it all.
The park’s wetland areas sustain approximately 400 bird species, which is more than in the whole of the UK.

Our Driver guide will pick you up from your Nairobi hotel for the half Day Trip. A pre-dawn pick up is recommended in order to beat the traffic and start your game drive early when the Cats and other animals are most active. There is usually a long queue that you want to beat at the gate as well.

Drive through the dry forest on the western end of the park and down into the Athi plains driving southwards on to the savanna grasslands. You may be lucky and see the lions right near the park gate. Sighting of lions in Nairobi national park has become very common and almost guaranteed.
Continue with your game drive in the park to look out for the black and white rhinos which are many here. There are also giraffes, buffalos, hippos, leopards, gazelles, elands, hyenas, zebras, baboons, wildebeests, cokes hartebeests and impalas among many other game.
Drive to the river walking trail and enjoy a short guided walk along the river Mbagathi to try and catch a view of the crocodiles, hippos and the terrapins in the water. There is also a chance of encountering a buffalo herd or giraffe males here. You can also cross over the bridge and buy some curio from the Masai women in a small market there.
You will depart the Nairobi national park for your hotel with an en route game drive. Drop off in your hotel by 12:30pm.
